Background and aim of the work: Total hip arthroplasty gained popularity as a successful management of the extensive deformities of both the femoral head and the acetabulum. In this study, we will revise and analyze the indications, methods of prosthesis fixation, and outcomes of each method in primary total hip arthroplasty performed in Taif tertiary hospitals.\nMaterial and method: this chart review study included 45 patients who performed total hip arthroplasty in Taif tertiary hospitals from January 2005 to December 2013. The hospital records were revised and the data were extracted from complete files with focusing on demographic data, indications, cemented or cementless implant used, follow up duration, complications, clinical scoring; using the Harris Hip Score, patient satisfaction, and failure with revision,.\nResults:\nThe most common indications were osteoarthritis followed by trauma and osteonecrosis. The cemented prosthesis group included 28 patients and cementless group included 17 patients. The mean preoperative clinical, pain, function, and physical examination scorings were significantly improved postoperatively in both groups (p<0.0%). There were no statistically significant differences between both groups as regards; patient characteristics, postoperative outcome, patient satisfaction, and revision rate. \nConclusion: Our study verified that total hip arthroplasty is a safe, successful procedure for treatment of complex hip disorders involving the acetabulum and head of femur with no significant difference between cemented and cementless implants
Purpose: The Classification of Intraoperative Complications (CLASSIC) is a recently proposed classification system for intraoperative adverse events (iAEs). No data have been reported regarding the relationship between the CLASSIC and postoperative course until our recently published study. The aim of the current study is to evaluate the predictive value of CLASSIC for postoperative complications (PostC) in gastrointestinal surgery.\nMethods: Demography, preoperative laboratory parameters, iAEs, PostC, and intraoperative pH and lactate levels of patients who underwent gastric and colorectal surgery were evaluated retrospectively. The recorded parameters were compared according to the CLASSIC and the Accordion Severity Classification of Postoperative Complications.\nResults: Ninety-five patients were considered. Mean age was 60±14, 38 female vs. 57 male. Demographic features and preoperative status of the patients, and the presence of intraoperative acidosis, were not significantly related to the grade of iAEs or PostC. Preoperative albumin level was significantly lower in patients with high-grade iAEs. The grade of iAEs has no statistically significant relationship to the grade of PostC (p=0.563). However, the actual rates of high-grade PostC were 10% and 18% in patients with low grade and high-grade iAEs, respectively. Additionally, high-grade iAEs were related to longer hospital stay (p=0.018).\nConclusions: The grade of iAEs could have a predictive value for the grade of PostC in patients who underwent gastrointestinal surgery. High-grade iAEs is a valuable predictor for longer hospital stay.
Endometriosis is a condition seen in the women during their reproductive period. In this study, we aimed to identify the clinical characteristics of our patients operated on due to scar endometriosis and to discuss the surgical results in the light of the literature. 18 patients, who were operated and diagnosed with endometriosis as the result of the pathological examination, were retrospectively examined. The mean age of the patients incorporated into the study was 31 (21-40), and 11 of them (61,1%) had applied to the general surgery polyclinic, whereas 7 of them (38,9%) had applied to the gynaecology clinic. The occurrence of endometriosis whose etiopathogenesis has not been fully explained is supported by most authors through the theory of iatrogenic implantation. In the cases visiting the hospital with the complaint of a mass on the abdominal wall, the previous obstetric and gyneacologic operations as well as the medical history of a painful mass becoming more and more severe during the menstruation periods must be questioned in full. In the treatment of scar endometriosis, excision is required by obtaining a secure marginal boundary. If diagnosis can be established in advance in scar endometriosis, then performing less or more than necessary surgeries will be prevented.
Abstract:\n Aim: To study the evaluation of the vascular endothelial growth factor, hypoxia-inducible factor-1 and Ki-67 protein labeled index in ameloblastoma and their relation to recurrence. Materials And Methods: Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) and Streptavidin-biotin immunoperoxidase staining techniques was used to detect the expression of VEGF, HIF- 1? & ki67 in 15 cases of follicular ameloblastoma. Evaluation of immunostaining was done using computer image analyzer system. Results: All cases of follicular ameloblastoma express VEGF (mild & negative), HIF1 (moderate, mild & negative) & Ki 67 ( moderate & negative). Conclusion: The expression of VEGF, HIF 1 ? have been associated with aggressive tumor progression, and thus has been implicated as a predictive and prognostic marker and Ki-67 could provide useful prognostic markers for proliferative activity and good prognostic indicators for recurrence rate of follicular ameloblastoma. \nKey Words: Expression of vascular endothelial growth factor a (VEGF-a), hypoxia-inducible factor-1 ? (HIF-1?), Ki67, hematoxylin-eosin (HE), immunohistochemistry (IHC).
This paper gives the realization of two sinusoidal multiphase oscillator circuits based on all-pass filter. The all-pass filter is of the first order which is built with CMOS based Differential Difference Complimentary Current Conveyor (DDCCC) as an active device using a canonical number of passive components. It uses a feed-forward capacitor that connects input and output. Because of this, we get better response, when the circuit is operated at high frequencies. The grounded resistance of the filter makes it attractive as it facilitates tuning. Each oscillator circuit is capable of providing a sinusoidal signal with multiple phase angles. The characteristics of the oscillators are simulated with the help of a SPICE window to demonstrate the agreement with theoretical results.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine fathers’ attachment to their infants between 4-12 weeks old. \nMaterials and Methods: The study was conducted in a cross-sectional and descriptive design. The study was carried out in new born and child polyclinics of a public teaching and research hospital in Istanbul between January-February 2015. Totally, 301 fathers selected with simple random sampling and agreed to participate were interviewed. Data were collected using an interview form questioning the socio-demographic characteristics and Paternal Infant Attachment \nResults: The average age of the fathers was 32.59±5.64 and the average duration of marriage was 6.83±5.66. The average subscale scores of Paternal Infant Attachment Scale were 31.19±3.80 in patience and tolerance subscale, 26.31±4.54 in pleasure in interaction subscale and 13.32±2.10 in love and pride subscale. The average of total scale score was 70.81±8.22. Subscale scores and total scale score were found to be significantly higher in fathers who were younger age, officer, having first baby, friendly to baby, happy in marriage, healthy baby and attended birth. On the other hand there was no significant relationship between scale scores and father’s education level, working status, economic status, duration of marriage, family size, body mass index and spouses’ occupation and education level. \nConclusions: The study concluded that fathers’ attachment levels to their infants were high, socio-demographic characteristics were not related to the attachment directly, however fathers’ young age, having first baby, friendly to baby and attendance at the birth had a positive effect on the attachment.
The purpose of this study was to identifythe efficacy of cold gel pad application for relieving perineal pain. Sample of this study included between September 2012 and February 2013. Cold gel pads were applied to the perineum of the 100 mothers in experimental group two times for 20 minutes in first hour and next second hours after birth. The first Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) score for the experimental group was 6.73±1.68; after cold gel pad application, the pain levels decreased to 2.59±1.20 in mothers. In the experimental group score of postpartum comfort scale increased and the difference was statistically significant (p<0.05). The application of a cold gel pad to the perineum relieved the perineal pain and increased postpartum comfort.
Aim: there are several methods for surgical intervention in symptomatic lumbar stenosis. The present study aims to assess first two year outcomes and recurrence of symptoms of patients treated with single posterior decompressive laminectomy and use of antiadhesive gel. \nMaterial and Methods: Patients requiring surgery for severe, symptomatic, lumbar spinal stenosis were evaluated retrospectively. Oswestry disability index scores were recorded before, in the twelfth month and 24 months of the surgery, all they have a same postoperative rehabilitation program \nResults: 60 patients were enrolled in the study. 30 patients we use the anti adhesive gel and 30 patients, we did not use it, The mean age of the population was 60,5. Neurogenic claudicating was the most common finding of the patients, 97% had single severe spinal stenosis. At the end of the 12 month period, group one patient had recurrence of symptoms 3.3% and group 2 three patients developed recurrence of symptoms 10% At the end of 24 months 2 of the groups one develops a recurrence of symptoms 6,6% and group 2 5 patients develop recurrence of symptoms 16,6%\nConclusion: In selected cases of symptomatic lumbar spinal stenosis, single posterior decompression using laminectomy and foramenotomy and use of an anti adhesive gel is effective in reducing recurrence of the symptoms
A new universal filter employing current feedback amplifiers has been presented. The proposed filter circuit employs two current feedback amplifiers and few passive components.. The proposed circuit implements one lowpass, two bandpass and one highpass filter functions simultaneously without changing circuit configuration and passive components. The proposed circuit employs only grounded capacitors which have added advantage of suitability to integrated circuit implementation. The active and passive sensitivities are quite small and less than unity. The simulation results are included.
The aim of the present paper is to investigate the surface waves in anisotropic, viscoelastic solid medium under the influence of rotation and gravity. The theory of generalized surface waves has firstly been developed and then it has been employed to investigate particular cases of waves, viz., Stoneley , Rayleigh and Love type. The wave velocity equations have been obtained for different cases and are in well agreement with the corresponding classical result, when the effect of gravity, viscosity and rotation as well as parameters for fibre-reinforced of the material medium are ignored.
